Description
The Spank SPIKE Race 33 Rear Wheel is a high-performance alloy rim designed for freeride, enduro, and downhill racing. It features a 29″ tubeless-ready rim with anti-burp hooks that help maintain tire pressure and secure the tire firmly in place. The rim has 32 holes, an inner width of 28mm, and an outer width of 33mm to optimize tire spread and improve traction.
The rim’s corrugated center offers added strength and rigidity without increasing material weight. A shot peen finish enhances durability by improving fatigue life. This wheel is handbuilt with SPANK HEX J-TYPE hubs, triple-butted J-hook spokes, and brass external nipples, assembled with a 3-cross lacing pattern. It comes tubeless taped and includes a Presta valve.
The hub features HEX DRIVE engagement with 102 points, 3.5 degrees of engagement, and 6 pawls. It uses a CNC-forged alloy hub body, alloy axle, and alloy freehub body, designed for 32-hole spokes and a 6-bolt disc mount.
This rear wheel is compatible with XD freehub bodies and is available in a 150/157mm BOOST spacing. It supports tire sizes from 1.9″ to 2.5″. Front wheels to pair with the SPIKE Race 33 are available.
The wheel suits a range of riding styles with a focus on heavy and medium-impact mountain biking, including all mountain, trail, enduro, freeride, and downhill use. It is recommended for e-bike use when adapted with the SPANK HEX DRIVE steel freehub (sold separately).
Compatible adapters and service kits are available for this wheel, including various axle shafts, freehub options for HG, XD, and Microspline, and bearing replacement kits.
